Associate Professor in Geophysics, dr. scient. Irina Artemieva

Irina Artemieva will during the coming years lead the development of geodynamics within EGU. EGU is the premier geosciences union in Europe, established in 2002 by the merge of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG). The Union has 22 Scientific Divisions that cover all Earth, planetary and space sciences, and its annual General Assemblies gather around 13,000 participants. EGU also organizers a series of other meetings, and publishes 17 scientific journals. Irina Artemieva is associate editor for the EGU journal "Solid Earth". She recently strengthened her reputation as the leading authority on the secular evolution of the lithosphere by publishing the monograph "Lithosphere - An Interdisciplinary Approach" with the renowned publisher Cambridge University Press. This multi-discip linary book comprises geophysical, geochemical and petrological aspects, and already forms the basis for teaching at several universities in USA, Canada and Europe, including the course on "The evolving lithosphere" at DGG.

Irina Artemieva is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She was awarded a M.Sc. in Physics from Lomonosov Moscow State University, a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the Institute of Physics of the Earth, Moscow and a Doctor of Science (dr. scient.) degree from the University of Copenhagen. Professor Artemieva has been employed as a researcher at the Russian/USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow, at the Universities of Uppsala (Sweden) and Strasbourg (France), and as a senior researcher at the United States Geological Survey in California. She was Science Co-ordinator of the European Science Foundation/International Lithosphere Programme EUROPROBE programme 1999–2001. She is a member of national scientific councils of Portugal (FCT) and France (UIF), has just completed a six years of term at the Swedish Research Council (VR), was a member of Irish Basic Research Grant Programme, and is presently reviewing for several international panels, including the National Science Foundation, USA (NSF); Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG); Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC); and Russian Ministry of Science and Eduacation (mega-grants evaluation). Dr. Artemieva is elected member of the European Academy of Sciences (Academia Europaea), Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (London), and Fellow of Geological Society of America.
