The research groups work within a wide range of the classical geological disciplines; from sedimentology, basin geology, petrology, mineralogy, and  geochemistry to palaeontology, and thus cover topics ranging from the Earth’s ancient history to the present as well as the evolution of life.

Research is also conducted in water resources, including the availability, movement and quality of groundwater, as well as geologically applied geophysics which is used in mapping and understanding of the subsurface.
