Design and Practice Based Research in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design

October 2-6th 2017

This PhD course focuses on design and practice as academic research methodologies within landscape architecture, urban design, architecture and related design-based fields. The aim is to support PhD students who conduct PhD projects through methods of design and practice in developing the frameworks and tools to manage and progress their PhD projects within an academic context.  The course will be run as an intense, supportive and collaborative workshop with themed lectures, worktime, discussions and presentations. The bulk of the week will be focused on working with participants to develop and refine their research proposals and techniques - and will end with participants presenting or re-presenting their research proposals and methods. The course will be co-taught by international guest lecturer Peter Connolly Associate Professor in landscape architecture at the School of Architecture, Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. He has been a key figure in establishing “research by design” program at RMIT, Melbourne and is the founder of the term “landscape urbanism”.

Course coordinator: Associate Professor Bettina Lamm

Copenhagen Landscape Lectures

Copenhagen Landscape Lectures is a public lecture series – bridging the urban and the rural, academia and practice – and is open to everyone with an interest in how we shape our environment.

Öresund Design Research Seminars

ÖRDS seeks to create a framework within which design researchers can meet, give mutual feedback concerning ongoing design research projects, and network across research institutions in the Öresund Region. ÖRDS is organised by the Research Group for Landscape Architecture at the University of Copenhagen  (UC responsible: Svava Riesto and the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management, SLU, Sweden (contact person Lisa Diedrich and Vera Vicenzotti).

World in Denmark

World in Denmark was an annual research conference – running 2004-2014 – that sheds light upon central themes and problem areas. This conference reached out from its foundations in landscape architecture and urbanism and engages with adjacent disciplines such as architecture, urban design, art and aesthetics, philosophy, and heritage studies.
