Kristen Danielle van Haeren

PhD Student

Kristen Van Haeren is a PhD fellow at the University of Copenhagen within the Landscape Architecture and Planning department. She takes part in the research project entitled Reconfiguring Welfare Landscapes, which investigates the future of the green open spaces of the post-war Danish social housing estates, and has been funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research. Kristen has a specific interest re-presenting the landscape as a 'thick', dynamic and contested common ground that is continually in the process of becoming. Her research aims to investigate modes of thick description and photography as a means of discovering alternative ways of reading, 'measuring' and understanding the plurality and depth of landscapes. Kristen is educated as an architect from Carleton University (BArch) in Canada and Delft University in the Netherlands (MSc) and has practiced in offices in both Canada and Europe.
