I hold a B.Sc. in Biology and M.Sc. in Natural Resources and Rural Development. I have worked with the sociocultural valuation of ecosystem services in rural comminities of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and the role of modernization policies as a driver of change in the region. For my Ph.D., I am conceptualizing contemporary Mayan's cultural landscapes to assess and model the balance between the sociocultural and the biophysical dimension in the provision of ecosystem services. It is expected the construction of an agent-based model tool that supports the design of policies for sustainable rural development.

My main interests are landscapes, social-ecological systems and political drivers of change.
