X-ray laboratory

This laboratory comprises instruments relevant for mineralogical, geochemical, and petrographic analysis of rocks from decimeter to micrometer scale.

X-ray equipment

The X-ray laboratory contains the following equipment:

  • Leica DM4-P microscope for petrographic analysis of thin sections using both transmitted and reflected light.
  • Bruker Tornado M4+ micro-XRF scanner for generating decimeter scale element maps, which can be converted to mineral maps using the AMICS software.
  • Bruker Advance D8 powder-XRD for mineral identification.
  • Renishaw inVia Qontor Raman microscope with a 532 nm solid-state laser for micron-scale mineral identification, and mapping of thin sections.
