Drawing exhibition: Landscape People Drawing Delight
The exhibition runs from 2-6 November 8:00-16:00.
A reception will be held on 2 November from 16:00-17:30 to mark the exhibition. Everyone is welcome.
Translating complex multidimensional impressions into two-dimensional drawings is a form of mental and haptic gymnastics. This exercise, as a part of practice within landscape architecture, helps ground our understanding of space and spatial qualities and helps us to keep our ‘communicating space muscles’ in form.
Richard Hare and Chamara Wijesinghe are landscape architects teaching drawing on the bachelor education in landscape architecture at IGN, Copenhagen University. In this exhibition they will be showing a little of their own drawing practices, with a focus on observational sketches. The drawings are chosen to show people in the landscape and in some cases recognizable human activity.
These visual ‘notes to self’ are a means to reach out and express some of the sensual impressions of the landscape that we experience, and through this suggest how sketching can help strengthen and feed our faculty of imagination.
The focus in this exhibition is on sketches that are ‘finished’ on-site but we have also included design process sketches and everyday drawings that manifest our ideas, both big and small.
While we very much hope that you enjoy the exhibition, much more importantly we hope it nudges you to get out there a little more and delight in the landscape first-hand – with all your senses and a sketchbook in your lap.
