My research and teaching is focused on natural resource management, especially land tenure security, land access and land markets in the Global South, including governance and authority issues as well as civil society organizations with relation to (land-, water- and other) rights. Rural development, inequality and gender issues are also part of my key interests. I have worked and lived in Latin America for almost a decade, where my regional specialization is, but have recently been involved in a 3-year research project in northern Laos. During 2016-2021 my research focus will be on international land-related investments and their impacts on land tenure security, water tenure security and employment effects in Uganda and Tanzania, as well as on Danish investors in agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa, through a research project called “Agricultural Investors as Development Actors? (AIDA)”. See more at https://www.diis.dk/node/6474
Outside of my research position I work with rural development in Danish and Nordic context, and have a part-time position as researcher at the Centre for Regional and Tourism Research, Bornholm. Currently, I focus this part of my work on the importance and influence of translocal actors in rural areas, as well as the development potential of network and collaboration between micro and small scale enterprices within the craft sector as well as within outdoor tourism actors.
