Preliminary RurbanClimate results presented at international conference
Preliminary results from the RurbanClimate household survey were presented at the NGM Conference ‘Transitioning Geographies’ in Copenhagen in June 2024. Based on collaborative work with the Ghanaian team, Ole Mertz and Sinne Ørtenblad participated with the presentation: ‘Small towns, fast development: urbanization and access to ecosystem services in West Africa’. The presentation was based on preliminary results from selected parts of the household survey data from Ghana.
The presentation showcased how local people experience changes in access to ecosystem services when relocating fully or partially to fast growing small towns in northern Ghana. We brought insights into the origins and movements of people residing in the small towns and how the usage of and access to selected ecosystem services are related to the move to expanding urban settings.
