Flora Huiban

Research Assistant

During my PhD, I will work on historical records reaching all the way back to the 1920s. I will process aerial imagery from early expeditions and newly released spy satellite images from both, the USA and USSR to develop new and advanced imaging and mapping tools. The goals are to open up new perspectives describing the role Antarctic glaciers have had through historical time, to better understand the ice loss of Antarctica, its sensitivity to a warming climate and consequently its contribution to future sea-level rise. The project is going to shed light on the dynamic response to ice shelf weakening and disintegration by studying the long-term impact of climate change on Antarctica.
