Hi. My name is Joanne. I grew up on a farm in the south-east of Ireland and this led me to pursue a B.Sc in Agriculture (Animal and Crop Production) and subsequently a Master of Environmental Science. I have studied and worked in Ireland, Denmark, Austria, the United States of America, New Zealand, and France (so far). 

In my spare time, I enjoy playing Gaelic sports (Gaelic football and hurling) and squash. I am currently the chairperson of Copenhagen GAA club. I grew up riding horses and also enjoy walking, hiking, and photography. To relax, I like to cross-stitch and read fiction.

Current research

I am currently working on the WildSoil project (WildSoil Project KU) as part of my Ph.D. WildSoil aims to answer the question: Can rewilding contribute to soil C capture and GHG mitigation, and does the choice of rewilding strategy (trophic vs. passive) influence this potential? The title of my Ph.D. is 'The persistence of soil organic carbon pools as regulated by rewilding'.

I started my Ph.D. in August 2022 and aim to be finishd in Summer 2025. The project is funded for 5 years by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). My main supervisor is Carsten W. Müller (KU Profile).
