The historical Moroccan cities are a treasury of the Moorish-Arabic ornamental art, being spared of bellicose actions and tended with special care. Perhaps the main branch of this art is the colourful zellij mosaics, which cover the walls, columns, pilasters, and fountains, basins and other niches of divided architectural spaces. Although this development took place since 11th century, the unceasing royal and religious support keeps it active and maintains it through support and education of new artists.
