Planning challenges for green infrastructure in metropolitan regions - an Italian perspective

Open lecture and discussion with Claudia Cassatella

Planning challenges for green infrastructure in metropolitan regions - an Italian perspective.

The metropolitan area of Turin was one corner of the “industrial triangle” of Northern Italy in the past Century.

The post-industrial transition implies an explicit strategy of environmental and landscape requalification.

The green and blue infrastructure of Turin is the result of 25 years of plans and projects, a clear landscape vision, and a collaborative multilevel governance system.

The lecture will illustrate planning mechanisms and outcomes at the local and the regional scale, and recent challenges in the management of such a supra-local system.

Claudia Cassatella is Associate Professor in Urban and Landscape Planning at Politecnico di Torino and Head of the Faculty of Planning and Design. Her research deals with landscape planning and landscape heritage. She is scientific manager for applied research for public authorities and H2020 projects. She has lectured internationally in EU, US and JPN. Past Member of the Executive Board of the Italian Society of Urban Planners (SIU) and of UNISCAPE.
